Akka teaser out: Netflix CONFIRMS October 30 premiere for Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte-starrer

Netflix Unveils Akka Teaser: Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte Lead a Women-Powered Gangster Saga

Netflix has released the first teaser for Akka, a new period series starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte. Set in the fictional kingdom of Pernuru, the drama promises a world of fierce loyalties, family legacies and competing claims to power—where women are not on the margins of the story but at its centre.

The teaser arrived on October 17, timed to coincide with Keerthy Suresh’s birthday. It introduces Keerthy as Bhavani and Radhika as Rudra, two formidable characters whose contrasting convictions appear to shape the series’ central tensions. Akka is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2026.

A fictional kingdom built by generations of women

Set in the 1980s, Akka imagines Pernuru as a kingdom formed and protected by generations of women. Its traditions, rivalries and shifting power dynamics provide the backdrop for a gangster saga that explores how influence is earned, inherited and defended.

Rather than presenting power as a simple contest between heroes and villains, the series appears to focus on the different beliefs and strategies that bring its characters into conflict. Bhavani and Rudra may share a world shaped by the same history, but the teaser suggests they approach its rules from distinct perspectives. Their relationship—and the consequences of their choices—will be central to the story’s appeal.

The series is produced by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, making it his directorial debut. Actor Tanvi Azmi is also part of the cast. With its period setting and invented kingdom, Akka has room to build a distinctive visual and political landscape while exploring themes of authority, identity and women’s solidarity.

Keerthy Suresh calls Bhavani a memorable role

For Keerthy, the teaser launch was especially meaningful because it gave her a chance to celebrate her birthday by sharing a project she describes as close to her heart. She said the affection she receives from audiences each year makes the occasion significant, and that unveiling Akka added something special to the celebration.

Keerthy described Bhavani as one of the most unique and memorable characters she has played. She also praised her collaboration with Radhika, noting that the characters’ dynamic brings an intriguing edge to the narrative. Their on-screen interplay could be a key draw for viewers, particularly as the story brings two strong personalities into a setting governed by entrenched customs and political rivalries.

Akka also marks Keerthy’s first series with both Netflix and YRF Entertainment. She said the project stood out because of its distinctive story and the world it inhabits, adding that she is looking forward to audiences discovering the many sides of Bhavani as the plot unfolds. The move into a long-form series gives the actor an opportunity to explore a character over a broader narrative arc than a feature film typically allows.

Radhika Apte’s Rudra is driven by conviction

Radhika Apte plays Rudra, a character she describes as fascinating and guided by her own convictions. According to the actor, Rudra has an instinct to challenge the world around her—a quality that places her at the heart of the series’ conflicts.

Radhika said the complexity of the characters and the tensions created by their differing viewpoints were among the elements that attracted her to the project. That focus on competing perspectives suggests Akka may give its leading women more than a shared struggle: they may also disagree about what justice, leadership or survival should look like in Pernuru.

The actor also welcomed the coincidence of the teaser and release-date announcement with Keerthy’s birthday, joking that she hoped the timing would bring good luck to the series. Having worked with Netflix on several projects, Radhika said collaborating with YRF Entertainment on a story with layered characters had been a rewarding experience. She is looking forward to viewers discovering Rudra and the different dimensions of her journey.

Why Akka could stand out in the streaming lineup

Period dramas often use the past to examine questions that remain relevant today. In Akka, Pernuru’s traditions and power structures provide a framework for exploring who gets to lead, how authority is maintained and what happens when established rules are challenged. The focus on women who have built, governed and defended the kingdom gives the series a perspective that sets it apart from more conventional gangster stories.

The combination of a fictional setting, an 1980s backdrop and a women-led crime saga also gives the creative team freedom to create a world with its own customs and political history. For audiences following Bollywood and Indian entertainment, the series brings together two prominent performers in roles designed around character conflict rather than spectacle alone.

The teaser offers an early introduction to Bhavani and Rudra, but leaves much of Pernuru’s history and the women’s relationship to be discovered. That mystery may be part of the show’s appeal: viewers will have to wait for the series to reveal how the kingdom’s past shapes its future—and whether its leaders can change the rules they inherited.

Akka premieres on Netflix on October 30, 2026. The series stars Keerthy Suresh as Bhavani and Radhika Apte as Rudra, with Tanvi Azmi also appearing in the cast.
