Sony LIV joins Prime Video India as an add-on subscription; plans start at Rs 399 per month

Prime Video India Adds Sony LIV as an Add-On Subscription

Prime Video India has expanded its streaming marketplace with the addition of Sony LIV as an add-on subscription, bringing films, original series, television favourites and live sports together in one place. Announced on October 21, the partnership gives viewers another way to watch Sony LIV content without moving between separate streaming apps.

The move reflects a wider shift in India’s streaming market, where audiences increasingly expect flexible access to multiple services through a single interface. For fans of bollywood, regional entertainment, television and sport, the new option could make it easier to discover a broader range of programming while managing subscriptions through Prime Video.

Sony LIV Plans and Supported Devices

Sony LIV is available to eligible Prime Video customers through two subscription options: Rs 399 per month or Rs 1,499 per year. Subscribers can watch on mobile devices, web browsers, Fire TV, smart televisions and other compatible living-room devices.

Adding Sony LIV to Prime Video’s add-on marketplace means customers can browse participating services within the Prime Video experience. The platform says add-on subscriptions also support consolidated billing, a shared watchlist, offline downloads and personalised recommendations. Subscription terms and the content available through each service may differ, so viewers should check the details of their chosen plan before subscribing.

Original Series, Movies and Popular Indian Television

The partnership brings Sony LIV’s catalogue of more than 450 movies and 300 shows to Prime Video’s entertainment offering. Its selection includes acclaimed originals such as the Scam franchise and Gullak, alongside films including Sitaare Zameen Par.

Sony LIV also carries programmes from Sony Entertainment Television and Sony SAB, connecting streaming audiences with familiar television brands. Popular titles include Kaun Banega Crorepati, Indian Idol, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Pushpa Impossible. Reality and entertainment fans can also find current programming such as KBC Season 18, Indian Idol Season 17 and Family Full House With Rohit Sharma.

This blend of on-demand series, films and ongoing television programmes gives the service a different rhythm from platforms focused mainly on original dramas and movies. Viewers can move between a scripted series, a long-running comedy and a competition show without leaving the same subscription environment.

Live Sports Adds a Major Draw

Live sport is a central part of Sony LIV’s appeal. Its coverage includes bilateral India cricket, the UEFA Champions League, the French Open, the Commonwealth Games and UFC, among other events. The announcement also pointed to India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand, featuring Test matches, One Day Internationals and T20 Internationals, beginning October 22.

For sports fans, bringing live coverage into a broader streaming marketplace may simplify the search for matches and events. It also complements the platform’s entertainment catalogue: subscribers can use the same service for a live cricket fixture, a reality show or a series episode, depending on what they want to watch.

Multilingual Programming for a Diverse Audience

Sony LIV’s content is available in Hindi, English, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Gujarati. That language range broadens the appeal of the partnership beyond Hindi-language programming and gives regional audiences more ways to find entertainment suited to their preferences.

The addition also strengthens Prime Video’s position as a destination for varied viewing habits. A household might use the service for international sport, regional shows, popular Indian television and bollywood-related entertainment, with recommendations and watchlists helping viewers keep track of what they want to see.

What the Companies Say About the Partnership

Gaurav Bhasin, Head of AVOD Business and Marketplace at Prime Video India, said the addition supports the company’s ambition to make Prime Video a broad entertainment destination. He described Sony LIV as a way to combine television programming and live sports with Prime Video’s existing catalogue, offering customers more choice across languages and genres.

Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head, Sports and International at Sony Pictures Networks India, said the partnership gives audiences another convenient route to discover the service. He highlighted Sony LIV’s live sports, regional programming and original series as key parts of its offering, adding that the company aims to extend their reach to more viewers in India and beyond.

A More Connected Streaming Experience

Prime Video’s add-on subscriptions are designed to reduce the friction of managing multiple streaming services. Rather than opening separate apps to search for each programme, customers can browse participating platforms through one interface and handle eligible subscriptions from their Prime Video account. The approach may be especially useful for viewers who want access to specific sports seasons, television shows or original series without committing to a standalone service year-round.

Still, the convenience of a combined platform does not mean every title is included in a standard Prime membership. Sony LIV remains a separately priced add-on, and its catalogue, availability and terms are governed by the relevant subscription plan. Customers should review those details to understand exactly what their payment covers.

With Sony LIV joining its add-on lineup, Prime Video India is widening its mix of entertainment and live events. The partnership brings together movies, original storytelling, familiar television, multilingual programming and major sports coverage—an increasingly important combination as Indian viewers look for more choice and simpler ways to watch.
